Missional Monks – Podcast Interview

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Previous Post – Missional Maturity

Not to long ago I was contacted by Chris Chappotin and Bret Wells, both a part of Christ Journey.  They are also the creators and hosts of the new podcast, Missional Monks.  While explore what it meant to be missional Christians shaped by monastic rhythms in their context, they decided to have conversations with like minded women & men around the country & world, and they decided to share those conversations with us!  I felt honoured that they wanted to hear about our journey at Little Flowers Community.

You can hear my interview right here.  In it I share my own journey from rural life in northwestern Ontario to my current home in Winnipeg’s inner city West End neighbourhood.  I also shared how Little Flowers Community was born out of the relationships with our neighbours, shaped by the Franciscan & Anabaptist traditions.  I really hope you will take the time to check it out.  Feel free to fire me any questions you might have as a result.

There are currently three other podcasts available in the growing series, including interviews with JR Woodward (who blogs excellently here) and Elaine Heath of Southern Methodist University, as well as the excellent introductory podcast by the hosts.  There is also a great line up of future guests, so subscribe to them here or follow them on Twitter.  They are off to an amazing start and well worth following in the future!

Weekend Linkage #3 – Updated

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Previous Post – Richard Twiss Video

Is it Saturday already?  This week has FLOWN by with the beginning of our huge Blow Out Sale at The Dusty Cover.  We’ve sold thousands of titles.  The story in the Winnipeg Free Press helped (sadly, not online).  Just over a week left in the sale, then the store closes, so head on down today.  Now, on to the linkage!

UPDATE: I had to update this post to add a link to David Fitch’s post “Ordination and the Lord’s Table: Providing some ‘Shape’ for “Things to Come’”, a MUST read for those who are seeking to nurture missional communities.

-If you haven’t already, check out this great story about a small group of Franciscan friars who walked 300 miles on a pilgrimage.  I am excited to say that later this month I will be posting an interview with these wonderful men, so stay tuned!

-Speaking of Franciscans, I will be leading a workshop on “Monastic Vows as Missional Virtues” at “The Great Emergence” day seminar with Phyllis Tickle here in Winnipeg (Oct. 31).  I’ll hopefully have taken full profession with The Company of Jesus by then, so I might even lead the workshop in my habit.  You’ll have to come to see it for yourself!

-When I saw how many comments Michael Spencer (imonk) got on his average blog post, I was blown away.  Until I read more.  I love this guy, especially this recent post on leaving room for churches to be wrong.  Well worth the read.

-Two people who have made Little Flowers Community possible, especially for Kim & I, are John & Delia Knight.  Their friendship, support & leadership have been amazing.  They are also both blind.  Which made this story so amazing. (HT: Scot McKnight)

-While controversial, I am a huge fan of the mysterious artist, Banksy.  Check out this amazing video:
