Previous Post – Intersections of Identity

As we all know, one of the things that make blogs to great is that conversation is possible through the comment section.  We are all also aware of how easily this gift can be hijacked by people less concerned with conversation.  Their comments can be rude, off topic, annoying, hurtful, etc.  It isn’t good.

Therefore, I’ve decided to institute a new comment policy here at The Cost of Community.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here it is, expressed better than I could ever have possibly hoped:

Thank you, XKCD.

    Love it!
And I have no problem with bloggers moderating comments, as long as it doesn’t disrupt the flow of honest discourse. Some do tweak them so that only the ‘nice’ stuff gets out… but then again, I don’t tend to gravitate towards those types of bloggers :o )

Jo, I agree. I have had to delete comments only 2 or 3 times in almost 10 years. I prefer open dialogue. I just couldn’t resist this gem.

I have a pretty low tolerance for trolling in my blog comments, personally. I particularly dislike it when atheists and/or fundamentalists show up and belittle or lecture me. Their comments never see the light of day.

Adam, I’ve avoided that with a few exceptions. Not many end up here.

Love it, thank you for posting this, it is always good to read your own content back to yourself, even if it is just a comment. It can certainly save a lot of grief…
