A Day With Alan Hirsch

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Previous Post – Fitch & Stetzer – Final Installment

Like many people, I first came across Alan Hirsch through reading his ground-breaking book, co-authored with Michael Frost, “The Shaping of Things to Come: Innovation and Mission for the 21 Century Church”.  I have since come to appreciate his important contribution to the church and even developed something of an email friendship with him.

That is why I am especially excited that he will be in Winnipeg this month.  The event, hosted by Forge Canada, will be hosted at Canadian Mennonite University on Oct. 26th, from 10am to 4pm.  Here is what Forge Canada has to say:

Come spend a day with other leaders, pastors and planters from around the city as we listen to Alan and other local leaders discuss leadership for the church in a new generation and context. This “Day with Alan Hirsch” is part of a series with national and International Leaders aimed at equipping local churches to transform their neighbourhoods.

Topics Include:

  • Missional DNA
  • Making It Practical
  • Christology
  • Canadian Conversation

This event is going to be well worth getting out to, so make yourself available that day.  Click here for more information. See you there!

David Fitch & Ed Stetzer – Final Installment

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Previous Post – Cost of Following: A Franciscan Reflection

Only a couple of days after the second part of this series was post, Bill Kinnon (mega-missional media mogul) also posted the finally segment of the three part conversation between David Fitch and Ed Stetzer.  This series has been excellent.  While I find myself more drawn to David’s prophetic challenge to the status quo of Christendom, I also share Ed’s hope and belief that God has, can and will work through churches of all types.  In the end, I think that, while I share Ed’s hope, I wish he had a bit of David’s fire about challenging some models (i.e. megachurches) to more different alternatives.

This last installment is exciting, as in many ways it sums up the meaning behind the name of this blog, “A Living Alternative”.  I’ll let them explain it for themselves:  (for Part 1 & 2 click here)
